Welcome back! Glad to have you back!
I have some tasks for your this first week to set up our electronic portfolios/blogs.
Psychology II Task Sheet 1
Home Page
Browsing
Take some time to browse the work of the last cohort. Go to ww.CSHSPsych.weebly.com and click on the “Psych Journal” tab. On the right hand column, you will find a list of students under “E-Portfolios”. Find three student portfolios and look at their site and their work. I am going to ask you to reflect and report back on your thoughts, but hold onto that while we make tabs/pages for our own sites.
Building Your Site
Step 1: Decide between WIX or WEEBLY
Step 2: Decide on a website name. Make sure it has something to with psychology and nothing to do with your name.
Step 3: Choose a template.
Step 4: Work on customizing your template to make it your own.
Step 5: Create the following tabs/pages and in this order: Home, About Me, Psych Journal (create as a blog), Tech Tools, Psych Projects, and Contact
Step 6: Go under your “Psych Journal” Page. Make sure this page does not have a header.
Step 7: Create a new post and title it Initial Thoughts and Feelings. Then compose a post about how your initial feelings about the course and the different direction we will be taking. Please do keep in mind that you should always read through, edit and polish all posts before publishing. You are still always writing for an academic audience. Professionalism is an expectation. For instance, it is okay for you to feel apprehensive and not like the direction of the technology aspect of this course. It is, however, not okay to say “This sucks.” Explain why you aren’t open to it and what your point/cause of worry is. Use this space to also report and reflect on the three different electronic portfolios that you visited.

Home
Go on some websites and check out just their home page. What information should be on a “Home” page?
Design your own home page with the following information:
- A headline. Within 3 seconds, a website needs to answer the question “What does this site offer?” or “What is the purpose of this website?” Keep your headline clear and simple. No fluff. Your headline needs to be the name of your website. Easy enough, right?
- A sub-headline. Your sub-headline should offer a brief description of what you do/offer. Explain your purpose and intent. Tell people what they are going to be seeing on this site. Be different and show value. Do not just talk about yourself. Talk about your site.
Things to keep in mind:
- do not make your home page too text heavy
- make your home page (and your website in general) easy to navigate and maneuver
- if you choose to use images, please make sure you use images that pertain to and are consistent with the theme/subject of your website
About Me
- Read through Ms. Kim’s About Me page. Note: I do show my entire face and do so because I am not a minor and because I have web presence that already demonstrate who I am in the education world.
- Create your own About Me page. Remember that you may not show your full face. Profiles are acceptable and peek-a-boo photos are also acceptable. For the information you supply, please make sure that you do the following:
b. Limit the use of specific details you use
c. You must include at least one image of yourself and you may include images of things that you are interested
in
d. On the bottom of your About Me page, create a button that says “contact” and link it to your “Contact page”
(you must first create a new contact page before you link your button to this page. See below)
Contact
Take a look at Ms. Kim’s Contact Page. There should be a Contact template on both Wix and Weebly. Personalize your contact page to your liking.

- Make sure that your entire site is to your liking. We will begin to use the website as intended on Monday.
- Make sure you email Ms.Kim the link to your site. You must copy the link of the actual site and not the site from the administrator's view.
- Make sure you create a "Blogroll" like I have on the right hand column of my Psych Journal. Make sure you have each site open up in a new window. You must have everyone in our class on your list and you must make sure that their links work.
- Once you have completed everything up to this point, you must read through Journal #1 of three of your classmates and leave them a comment. Sign your name with the name you are using on the blogroll.
In the gradebook, you will see an entry for the following:
[These are due by Monday, January 26, 2015.]
- "Portfolio Set-Up" - 25 points. Based on this entire task sheet being completed as it requires
- "Journal #1" - 20 points. Based on the depth and specificity in the response. Winging it does not earn you 20 points. Make sure you read through and edit your posts prior to publishing. Writing for a formal, academic audience is mandatory.
- "J1 Comment #1" - 5 points. Students respond earnestly and honestly to a post written by their colleagues. Student response respectfully and addresses something specific from their post.
- "J1 Comment #2" - 5 points. Students respond earnestly and honestly to a post written by their colleagues. Student response respectfully and addresses something specific from their post.
- "J1 Comment #3" - 5 points. Students respond earnestly and honestly to a post written by their colleagues. Student response respectfully and addresses something specific from their post.
