Social Psychology Project
This is a project where we look at individuals and society. In your groups, you will come up with two proposals for two different experiments. One experiment will test breaking social norms in the context of school and the other will test breaking social norms in the context of the real world. After you get your proposal accepted, you will then start your experiment. You will need to document your experiment, but you will need to make sure you are incognito. People will react differently when they know they are being filmed. So in order to get authentic responses for your experiment, make sure that you plan out who will be taping, how they will be taping and I highly suggest you do a trial practice round with the people in your group to ensure that the person who is taping is disguised. Another individual in your group will need to take notes about all the observable data. Watch the subject closely and document what the subject says and how the subject acts. Everyone should take turns being the video recorder and the data collector.
During the duration of this project, make sure you document all the work of your group in Journal #21. Refer to the directions and example on the Psych Journal page.
Step 1:
As a group, type a proposal for each of your two projects. While you wait for your projects to be approved, read through the background of Social Psychology.
Step 2:
Once your proposals have been approved, you may begin your experiment. If you are able to, interview your subjects after your experiment and explain to them that this was a social psychology experiment and explain your project. Then ask them post-experiment questions like "What did you think about _______?" and "Why did you respond the way you did?" Another other questions that you think are important in the context of social psychology like "Do you think the majority of people would act in the same way as you did? Why or why not?" The questions should be geared towards finding out why the subjects acted the way they did and what their actions say about individuals in society.
Step 3:
Once you have data from 5 subjects (per experiment), go through the film and start deducing information about how people acted and behaved. Once you come up with an explanation of your experiment and your subjects, record one or more of your group members (can be voiceovers that are used appropriately) offering the explanation. Use the twelve terms in your film and make sure you explain the terms.
Step 4:
Fill out the Group Report Form
Step 5:
Be ready to present your video on Friday, May 8.
